Tomorrow starts the conference Game Studies at the Museum at the MAKK in Cologne, Germany, which I help organize. I made this design for the poster and flyers.
A bit about the topic of the conference:
Computer games have finally proven their status as a valuable cultural object by entering museums. However, this development involves overcoming considerable impediments which result from computer games being ephemeral media; meaning that these need to be played to manifest themselves at all. Hence, to acknowledge this ephemerality, an exhibition of computer games would have to resemble an arcade rather than a traditional museum and therefore consist of a range of game stations to be tried out by visitors. Although the number of projects placing computer games within the context of a museum is steadily growing, the ideal mode of their exhibition is still a desideratum to be considered by curators and game researchers alike. The conference addresses this issue with a series of different contributions that span across the fields of game studies, game design and game art. In addition to curatorial problems, the event will discuss computer games in terms of current media transitions as well as from a media historical perspective.
If you are in or near Cologne, come and participate in the discussion!
